Faerie Delights

Good afternoon to thee!
I have been scouring the 'net for wonderous ideas for some gear to make and wear to my first music festival of this year. I'm a bit bored with blending into the background, cavorting around in my music-t-shirts and shorts - not that it's hard for me to blend in, due to my magnificent size - so I'm hoping to liven myself up for the delights ahead.

I'm firstly hitting Wychwood, my first love of music and where I found my roots and beginnings to my eccentricity. It's fantastic! 1. because I don't see anyone I know, which means 2. I can look what I like and not give two hoots what anyone thinks; and 3. I get to enjoy time with my family (that's my parents, brothers and auntie).
There are some absolutely brilliant acts on this year, from the likes of: Bellowhead, The Damned, Fay Hield & The Hurricane Party, Hawkwind, Urusen, Sean Lakeman & Kathryn Roberts, and my personal favourite, Dhol Foundation!

But anyways, I shall continue on with my quest for clothing. My good friend Pinterest came into the limelight to help me here, as I found an absolutely spiffing dress that feeds my needs. The following photo's are from several artists that call to me. I absolutely adore the quaint appearance of them, which I can assure you will bode well with my latest edition of some faerie wings - trainee, of course.

Another aspect I found incredibly intriguing was blogger 'musicianatheart', who, inevitably enlightened my sparking eyes to a quick project that I could achieve with all the left over scraps of materials in my cupboard. Thank you!! I shall start tinkering straight away....

What's in a Name, On This Fine Summer's Night?

Aaah, the sweet smell of cut grass, the waft of beautiful foods and a soft distant song of flittering birds. It means one thing. Summer is arriving. The only problem is, I've been working all day so I haven't had the opportunity to bask in this wonderful weather Britain has strangely been having. Both that and the opportunity to realise how informative I've been of myself and my quite abrupt introuctions of myself. How rude of me - I must sound like a stuck-up, mad twit!!

Well, the clue's in the name of the Blog. I consider myself to be quite mad, but that can be quite contradicted by my shyness around people I don't know very well. It's actually hense the reason to why I've decided to write a blog. A lot of my friends don't have the same major wavelength as me in regards to where interests are concerned. As I've mentioned before I look towards Faeries and Dreams as oppose to the traditional fantasy-based followings. I like to be different - or at least consider myself to be different.
Writing. I love writing about insane and pointless stuff, so I suppose the blog will turn into an 'anything-and-everything' blog as oppose to the madness I've already provoked of just artwork and admiriations.

Speaking of admiriations, I thought I'd share with you a link to the inspiration that set off my creative spark to get into writing a blog. Folk and Faerie  is a much loved specimen to my life at the moment, as it holds a treasure of beautiful findings much to my liking. Despite the indication that Jessica Marie, the blog's author, is ending its chapter, I urge you to nosey around at her wonderful reviews and quirky influence. I particularly like her Faerie Wear entries, predominantly due to the fact that I'm a hopeful fashion student, but also as the pieces she's reviewed highlight my style and influences.  I hope you enjoy!

Step Forward into My Dream



I thought I'd kick-start my blogging journey with some photography artwork that I'm really proud of. The following three images were a series of developed finals for my AS Photography Exam that I had created from the initial theme "Personal Possessions" and my loving desire of the possession of Dreams. My beautiful best friend, Philippa, modelled for me, as I wanted the scenery to bounce off of a figure to indicate this idea of dreams coming from someone. A lot of the work was inspired by Chiara Fersini and Selina Fenech, of which the first image was inspired by the idea of reflection. 

The waterfall appearance of the dress and background, which was in fact manipulated via photoshop with a section of the dress, creates that atmospherically dreaminess that you could easily slip into. This first shoot involved using two coloured gel light covers, a key light and two flag-boards on either side of the studio, which inevitably gave the desired display of colour within the piece. Without sounding big-headed - oh, who am I kidding? This IS big-headed of me - I was the first person in my year doing Photography to use the coloured gels within my work, which I can undoubtedly say was a success. The capture of light reflecting off of the dress gives a striking effect against the mood and sets the tone of the piece, as well as picking up on shadowed areas and features in the face.

This is particularly more noticeable in the other two images (the shadowing in the face, that is). I experimented with different coloured gels, this time settling for subtle pastel blues and turquoise, and incorporating more luxurious fabrics into the piece; as well as using some movement to give the shots more body. My favourite of the three is the third one, as I really like how I've managed to pull together my initial intentions of the themes I had looked at. The layered 'collage' appearance struggled in the first shot I must admit, as I found it hard to capture shots that were relevant to the tone and atmosphere to the coloured lighting. However, after much panic and desperation, I thought I'd  incorporated photo's that I had taken when I was up in Stocksbridge, South Yorkshire for a week back in April; which I felt flowed well with the whole concept and relevance of the themes.

Now, I like using photoshop if you're going to show a distinct change for colours or manipulation in ART. I do, however, object to the fake appearances still used in magazines that still control the way we 'should' look. My work uses this element to emphasise a dream-factor, not hide true identities. I particularly favour the blur and smudge tools which I used in the third image to create a watery effect.

I thrive on creativity: a much pleasant and beautiful approach to life in this messed-up world. Eccentric? I could be, but I believe all the best people are.

 I've decided to  embark on a journey, opening up about my creative madness to the world, or most favourably, to those who care for the magical aspect of dreams.

Faerie, Folklore and Myth, Legend, Dream, and Magic, are some of the key aspects that reflect my imagination, inspiring me to produce unique artwork in my continuously developing photography and dressmaking skills. It is here that I will share with you my work and ideas, as well as streaming through magnificent work that I, and even you, will appreciate and admire from other artists or bloggers. 

What's the sense of loving something if you can't share it with anyone? This is my escapism. I hope you find peace within it too...
